Green Bay Packers running back Jim Taylor (31) in action against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
(ST. LOUIS) - The Green Bay Packers scored the first five times they had the ball and stormed past the St. Louis Cardinals, 30-7, in a game marked with roughing penalties. The Packers lost quarterback Bart Starr on a hand injury late in the third quarter after a fist-swinging incident in which Cardinal DB Jimmy Hill was ejected. John Roach replaced him for the rest of the game. Jerry Kramer kicked field goals of 39, 26 and 34 yards, and Tom Moore and Jim Taylor each scored from one yard out for Green Bay. Then after the Cardinals connected on a 40-yard pass play from Charley Johnson to Bobby Joe Conrad late in the third period, Taylor plunged another yard for the final score. The game was played before 32,224, the largest ever to see a regular season Cardinal game in St. Louis. The Packers outgained the Cardinals, which led the league in offense, 238 yards to 58 and had a 14-3 bulge in first downs in the first half.
